Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, said that the relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt And the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is reflected in strengthening development efforts in many sectors, especially small and medium enterprises, combating climate change, promoting job opportunities, and stimulating the private sector. Last year, the European Bank approved financing worth about 737 million euros for the private sector to support small and medium enterprises, pointing out that the investments targeted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the private sector in Egypt amount to about one billion euros during the current year.
The Minister of International Cooperation stated that the European Bank is a major partner for the government in implementing the energy axis within the national platform. Egypt approves new decisions to expand the scope of the bank’s operations.
The Governor of Egypt at the Bank approved the decisions taken regarding the amendment of the Articles of Association to enable the European Bank to expand its operations in sub-Saharan Africa, And Iraq, which reflects the growing role of the European Bank and multilateral development banks to support development efforts and climate action in various countries.
In her speech, she affirmed Egypt’s willingness to cooperate with the Bank, to serve as a gateway to the Bank’s expansions in the African continent, based on its strong relationship with the continent, and its role in enhancing South-South cooperation to transfer expertise and development experiences to African countries. It is noteworthy that during 2021, the draft of the new Country Cooperation Strategy with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the period 2022-2027 was completed, and on February 9, 2022 The strategy was finally approved, and it is based on three main axes: supporting the state’s efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic growth, accelerating the green transition, enhancing competitiveness, increasing growth rates and stimulating the role of the private sector, and taking into account national strategies and Egypt’s vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Climate Change 2050, presidential initiatives and reform measures to represent a framework for formulating the strategy For the next five years, the most important of which are the Presidential Initiative for a Decent Life, the Human Rights Strategy, the National Strategy for Sustainable Energy 2035, the National Strategy for Women’s Empowerment, Competitiveness and Digital Transformation.
