In her speech during the “Towards Sustainable Export Growth” workshop organized by the US Agency for International Development

The Minister of Trade and Industry reviews the ministry’s efforts to upgrade Egyptian exports and achieve the state’s directions to reach 2022 billion dollars in exports annually

Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea affirmed the ministry’s keenness to enhance Egyptian exports to all regional and global markets by opening new markets for exports, creating a new generation of exporters and enhancing its export capabilities, in a way that contributes to achieving the Egyptian state’s directions to reach Egypt’s exports to 285 One billion dollars annually.

This came in the context of the Minister’s speech delivered by the Attorney General Minister Plenipotentiary Trade / Amr Hazaa, Advisor to the Minister for National Finance and Projects, during the activities of the workshop organized by the US Agency for International Development under the title “Towards sustainable export growth” with the aim of introducing In the Trade and Export Development Project in Egypt funded by the US Agency for International Development, in the presence of Mr. Rachid Benjelloun, Director of the Trade and Export Development Project in Egypt, and Mr. Paul Mansley, Marketing Expert at the US Agency for International Development.

The Minister said that the ministry is making unremitting efforts to upgrade Egyptian exports through Developing the export capabilities of exporters and promoting Egyptian exports in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the strategy of the Ministry of Trade and Industry emanating from Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Egyptian government’s work program, noting that the strategy is implemented in coordination between the various sectors of the ministry, the commercial representation agency and Egyptian commercial offices abroad.

Jameh explained that the ministry pays great attention to the main role of development partners in implementing development projects that serve the global economy. She pointed out in this regard that the ministry has established a unit for development projects that specializes in all development projects affiliated with the ministry, in a way that contributes to producing tangible results from these projects whose effects are positively reflected on the growth of the national economy.

She indicated The Minister indicated that the US Agency for International Development is one of the main partners of the Egyptian state with regard to development projects, as the Trade Development and Export Development Project in Egypt comes at the forefront of these projects, which works under the umbrella of the Agreement to Stimulate Trade and Investment in Egypt, signed between the Egyptian government and the US government, and has a duration of five years during the period from 2021 to 2026, pointing out that the project aims to enhance Egypt’s foreign trade by increasing exports of small and medium-sized enterprises. And presenting the outputs of the international market study carried out by the project to identify the products that Egypt has opportunities to maximize its exports, in addition to reviewing international practices with regard to creating a business environment for foreign trade.

On his part, Mr. Rachid Benjelloun, Director of the Trade and Export Development Project in Egypt, funded by the US Agency for International Development, stressed the importance of the partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry as the main partner of the project as part of the bilateral cooperation agreement. Between the Egyptian government and the government of the United States of America, which aims to achieve sustainable growth for Egyptian exports, pointing out that the project seeks to enhance international trade for Egypt by increasing the exports of the small and medium-sized enterprises sector from various Egyptian governorates in 6 targeted sectors, including building materials, construction, packaging, and engineering industries, Food, chemical, home furnishings and ready-made clothes with a total financing of 225 one million dollars.

Benjelloun added that the project aims to Qualifying Egyptian companies by building partnerships with relevant authorities from the public and private sectors and cooperating with effective bodies and organizations to enhance and support the business environment, in particular providing commercial services to owners of small and medium-sized enterprises promising for export to raise their competitive capabilities. And help them access new global markets, noting that the project works to enhance Egypt’s international trade by improving the export capabilities of small and medium-sized companies, building the capacities of trade-supporting institutions, developing trade and investment policies and improving the institutional environment, in order to reach an appropriate environment that contributes to export sustainability.

In turn, Mr. Paul Mansley, a marketing expert at the US Agency for International Development, reviewed the outcomes of the study that was prepared on global markets, as it was found that the increase in exports of small and micro companies in the 6 targeted sectors in the project will contribute to giving a significant boost. for Egyptian exports by improving the export environment for small companies and enhancing their capabilities by providing them with technical support and training to promote exports in foreign markets.
